Coimbatore: The Health Minister Vijayabaskar and the Minister for Municipal Administration S P Velumani flagged off an awareness rally to mark World Organ Donation Day, as well as inaugurate the Pneumococcal Vaccine and Vascular Surgery Unit at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH).

Addressing the media, the Minister Vijayabaskar said, "The maternal-infant mortality rates in Tamil Nadu are very low when compared to other states in India. For the first time in India, we have launched a program to vaccinate infants less than 1.5 kg in Coimbatore with vaccinations that cost Rs. 4 crores. This is part of the free vaccination plan. Within a short period of the launch of Cath Lab in Coimbatore GH, about 2750 angiograms and 150 open heart surgeries have been performed," he added.
The Minister also commented on the Centre's policies saying, "We oppose various articles in the National Medical Commission Bill. Tamil Nadu has been given more representation but the Tamil Nadu Government opposes NEXT exams."
